" ...my first essay collection to appear in the USA, titled The nostalgic drum...The collection, Insidious treasons, drama in a postcolonial state was the second to come after that first book. It was also a volume of essays, lectures, and seminars that I had contributed in a period of 10 years to various conferences and other intellectual occasions...this second collection was that it very rapidly went out of the market ... a reprint was therefore necessary. But it has been over a decade now since that first edition ... and other important essays have been written and other lectures delivered. It seemed then that, rather than just re-issuing the old collection as it was, it would be more practicable to revise it appropriately. This is what has led now to this new volume, titled Insidious treasons and beyond: forty years of alternative theatre in Nigeria. Most of the essays in my second collection have been retained here, but a number of new essays have now been included ..."-- Introduction.
